Answer:An embedded carbamate group in the bonded ligand adds polar interactions and can change selectivity, notably for phenolic analytes.
Answer:The 5 × 2.1 mm pre-column attaches directly to a compatible ACQUITY UPLC column inlet.
Answer:The pack contains three 1.7 µm, 130 Å BEH Shield RP18 VanGuard pre-columns, not an analytical column.
Waters ACQUITY UPLC BEH Shield RP18 VanGuard pre-columns protect matching analytical columns using an endcapped, embedded-polar C18 phase. Each direct-connect guard contains a 5 × 2.1 mm bed of 1.7 µm, 130 Å BEH particles. An embedded carbamate group changes reversed-phase selectivity relative to straight-chain C18 ligands and is useful for method development with phenolic compounds. The direct inlet connection minimizes extra-column volume and unnecessary fittings while intercepting contamination ahead of the analytical bed. The guard is specified for pH 2–12 and up to 18,000 psi (1,240 bar). Three pre-columns are supplied.
