Answer:Buffer G2 lyses biological samples before genomic DNA purification in compatible Genomic-tip and EZ1 procedures.
Answer:Yes. Many compatible lysis workflows use Buffer G2 with Proteinase K or QIAGEN Protease.
Answer:No. Guanidine-containing waste must not be mixed with bleach, which can produce hazardous reactive compounds.
QIAGEN Buffer G2 is a lysis buffer for preparing biological samples before genomic DNA purification. The 260 mL formulation is used in Genomic-tip and specified EZ1 workflows, commonly in combination with Proteinase K or QIAGEN Protease to release nucleic acids from cells and tissues. Buffer G2 contains guanidine hydrochloride, Tris, EDTA and nonionic detergents; together, these components promote disruption of membranes and protein-containing structures while maintaining a suitable environment for sample lysis. The buffer belongs at the sample-preparation stage, ahead of the relevant genomic DNA capture and washing steps. Incubation time, mixing and protease requirements vary with sample type and procedure. Guanidine-containing process waste should be kept separate from bleach and acidic cleaning reagents. Buffer G2 is not a DNA elution reagent and should not be substituted for the downstream column buffers.
