Answer:It is used as a controlled abrasive during maintenance of compatible GC/MS ion source components.
Answer:No. It is a mechanical cleaning material and has no function as a mass calibration or tuning standard.
Answer:No. Use it only on the surfaces and source components specified by the applicable Agilent service procedure.
Agilent Aluminum Oxide Abrasive Powder is a 100 g maintenance material for cleaning deposits from selected gas chromatography–mass spectrometry ion source components. Contaminants can accumulate on source surfaces during routine GC/MS analysis, contributing to unstable responses, reduced sensitivity or the need for frequent tuning. In an approved source-cleaning procedure, a small quantity of aluminum oxide powder forms a mild abrasive paste that helps remove deposits from appropriate metal surfaces after the source has been safely disassembled. The powder is a mechanical cleaning aid; it is not a chemical calibration standard, replacement source part or mass spectrometry reagent. Cleaning methods vary by ion source design, and delicate surfaces or holes must not be abraded indiscriminately. Follow the instrument's service manual for disassembly, suitable cleaning materials, rinsing, drying and reassembly. Verify the instrument's vacuum and tuning performance after source maintenance.
