The Agilent PLRP-S reversed-phase HPLC analytical column contains fully porous polystyrene-divinylbenzene (PS/DVB) polymer particles with 300 Å pores and 5 µm particle size in a 4.6 × 150 mm stainless-steel column. Unlike silica-bonded C18 phases, the polymeric stationary phase operates through hydrophobic interactions without relying on a silica substrate, giving an exceptionally broad specified pH compatibility range of 1–14. The wide pores can accommodate selected peptides, proteins or larger analytes, depending on molecular size and method conditions. Method development should account for the different retention and selectivity of PS/DVB compared with alkyl-bonded silica and monitor column temperature and solvent strength to achieve adequate recovery. The exact column is rated to 207 bar, so instrument limits must not override the column's maximum pressure. Filter or clarify samples, equilibrate thoroughly and verify resolution, carryover and system suitability before quantitative sequences. This product is a full-length analytical column, not loose polymeric resin.
