Merck Guanidinium Chloride EMPROVE EXPERT is a highly soluble chaotropic salt used in protein-processing, denaturation and aqueous biopharmaceutical manufacturing applications. The 25 kg pack supports preparation of large-volume processing solutions where reproducible reagent quality is important. Guanidinium chloride, also called guanidine hydrochloride (CAS 50-01-1), disrupts noncovalent interactions and is therefore useful for unfolding proteins and facilitating solubilization of challenging biomolecules. The denaturing action is concentration dependent and must be compatible with the downstream purification or refolding procedure. Unlike a conventional buffer salt, guanidinium chloride can markedly alter protein conformation, so it should not be substituted for sodium chloride in native-protein solutions. Controlled raw-material specifications and documentation support manufacturing qualification. Weighing and dissolution should be performed using appropriate chemical-handling controls, and residual denaturant levels should be managed when the process requires subsequent restoration of biological activity.
