Answer:Salmonella species and other enteric bacteria during selective isolation and differentiation.
Answer:Hydrogen sulfide reacts with iron salts to form a dark precipitate.
Answer:No. Presumptive colonies require appropriate confirmatory testing.
GranuCult Prime Xylose Lysine Deoxycholate Agar is a granulated selective and differential culture medium for isolation and presumptive differentiation of Salmonella and other relevant enteric bacteria. Deoxycholate suppresses many competing organisms, while the xylose, lysine and phenol-red indicator system distinguishes metabolic reactions on the plate. Thiosulfate and an iron salt reveal hydrogen sulfide production through dark or black-centered colonies in suitable organisms. These observations aid presumptive colony selection but do not replace confirmatory identification testing. The dehydrated medium is supplied in a 500 g package and is prepared at approximately 55 g/L for microbiological plating. It is used in food, water and environmental microbiology workflows with appropriate sample enrichment and confirmatory steps. Select culture and incubation conditions from the applicable ISO or validated laboratory method.
