Answer:It is supplied as 5 g of N-(1-naphthyl)ethylenediamine dihydrochloride designated GR for analysis and ACS reagent grade.
Answer:It acts as a coupling reagent for the colored azo-product formation used in Griess-type nitrite assays.
Answer:No. A suitable diazotizing reagent, acid conditions, standards and a validated measurement method are also needed.
Merck Supelco N-(1-naphthyl)ethylenediamine dihydrochloride is an ACS-grade analytical reagent supplied as 5 g of solid material. The aromatic diamine salt has CAS 1465-25-4 and a molecular mass of 259.17 g/mol. It is used as a color-forming coupling reagent in analytical determination of nitrite, including variants of the Griess reaction. Under the selected acidic assay conditions, nitrite is first converted to a diazonium intermediate using the appropriate diazotizing reagent; coupling with N-(1-naphthyl)ethylenediamine produces a colored azo compound for visible-range measurement. The reagent by itself is not a complete nitrite test kit. Prepare fresh or appropriately stored solutions using the solvent, acid concentration and timing specified by the analytical protocol. Include reagent blanks and nitrite calibration standards, and control sample matrix effects that can affect the color response. Store the solid at the specified ambient storage conditions in a tightly closed container, protected from contamination. Review the chemical safety information before preparing solutions or disposing of spent reagents.
