Answer:They are designed for liquid samples, including cleaning-in-place rinse water and water-monitoring samples.
Answer:A luciferin-luciferase bioluminescent reaction produces light measured using a compatible HY-LiTE 2 or 2A luminometer.
Answer:No. Total ATP indicates ATP-containing material and is not a species-identification or viable-count assay.
Merck HY-LiTE Liquid Test Pens provide ready-to-use bioluminescent testing for total adenosine triphosphate in liquid samples. The test pen is used with HY-LiTE 2 or 2A luminometers, which detect the light generated by the luciferin-luciferase reaction. Total ATP measurement is useful for rapid hygiene screening in food-and-beverage processing, particularly cleaning-in-place rinse water, and for monitoring biomass-related changes in water systems. A positive ATP signal indicates ATP-containing material but does not identify individual microbial species or establish a culture-based viable count. The format supports routine comparisons between samples and changes over time when sampling technique and handling are standardized. The pack contains 50 tests and requires refrigerated storage at 2–8 °C. This liquid-sample test format is distinct from swabs intended for solid-surface hygiene monitoring.
