Description

Background information
CD117 (c-kit) is a receptor tyrosine kinase expressed on the majority of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells, on some tissue stem cells as well as mature mast cells. Stimulation of CD117 by its ligand, the cytokine stem cell factor (SCF), is important for stem cell survival and maintance.

Downstream applications
- Further flow cytometric analysis or sorting of isolated CD117+ cells, e.g. into LSK populations3.
- Transplantation of CD117+ bone marrow cells, e.g. after myocardial infarction for differentiation into smooth muscle cells, myocytes, and endothelial cells4.

Columns
MS, LS, XS, or autoMACS® Columns.

Overview
CD117 MicroBeads have been developed for the positive selection of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells from mouse bone marrow. In addition, CD117 MicroBeads have been successfully used for the isolation of a variety of tissue stem cells, e.g. differentiated embryonic stem cell cultures1, or amniotic fluid-derived stem cells2.
