Thermo Scientific™ 3000 Series Nanosphere Size Standards are highly uniform polystyrene spheres calibrated within billionths of a meter (nanometers) with NIST traceable methodology. One nanometer is 0.001 micrometer (μm) or 10 angstroms. Spheres have a density of 1.05 g/cm^3 and an index of refraction of 1.59 at 589nm (25°C).

Application Note

3000 Series Nanosphere™ Size Standard, 300 nm is used to calibrate and verify particle-size measurements in microscopy, light-scattering, and colloidal research. The standard consists of uniform 300 nm polystyrene spheres dispersed in water at 1% solids. The spherical geometry minimizes instrument response to particle-shape effects, while the narrow size distribution supports consistent calibration and method checks. The particles have a density of 1.05 g/cm³ and a refractive index of 1.59 at 589 nm and 25 °C. The size distribution is specified at no more than 1.8%. Each 15 mL dropper bottle includes a certificate of calibration and traceability to NIST, providing documented linkage to dimensional standards. The aqueous suspension contains a trace amount of surfactant to reduce agglomeration and improve colloidal stability. The material is particularly useful for electron microscope calibration and other applications that require a traceable, discrete 300 nm particle standard.
