Application Note

The Thermo Scientific Sorvall Legend Micro 17 is a ventilated benchtop microcentrifuge for routine separation and pelleting of small laboratory samples. Its supplied rotor accepts 24 microcentrifuge tubes of 1.5 or 2.0 mL capacity, with a maximum operating speed of 13,300 rpm and maximum relative centrifugal force of 17,000 × g. The 230 V, 50/60 Hz instrument includes a ClickSeal biocontainment lid for the compatible rotor. Applications include rapid spin-downs, nucleic acid preparation, small-volume protein work and other tube-based separation procedures requiring controlled centrifugal force. The centrifuge is not refrigerated, so sample heating and temperature sensitivity must be managed through the experimental method. Balance opposing tubes, confirm proper rotor engagement and use suitable vessels within specified load limits. Select force and run time based on the sample rather than using the maximum setting automatically. The unit is a complete benchtop centrifuge rather than a replacement rotor or rotor lid.
