Answer:It is designed for preparing fused-silica capillaries used in capillary electrophoresis and CE/MS workflows.
Answer:A smooth, flat capillary end helps reduce irregular flow at the outlet and supports stable operation, particularly where the end forms part of a CE/MS interface.
Answer:Yes. Agilent offers a replacement diamond-blade kit for the CE column cutter; the complete cutter and blade replacement kit are different items.
The Agilent capillary electrophoresis column cutter uses a rotating diamond blade to prepare clean ends on fused-silica separation capillaries. Accurate capillary trimming is important in CE and CE/MS workflows because rough, angled or fractured ends can alter separation reproducibility and the stability of electrospray at a CE/MS interface. The cutter supports controlled scoring of a capillary before separation, helping produce a flatter, more perpendicular terminal face than an improvised cutting tool. It is intended for preparing separation capillaries, not for trimming stainless-steel chromatography columns or general laboratory glassware. After cutting, inspect the capillary end under magnification for irregular edges and ensure that its length matches the instrument method. The diamond blade is replaceable; Agilent offers a separate replacement blade kit. Observe appropriate eye protection and instrument preparation procedures when handling brittle fused-silica capillaries.
