Answer:Quaternary ammonium (Q) groups provide strong anion-exchange functionality for suitably negatively charged proteins and other biomolecules.
Answer:One prepacked HiTrap Capto Q column containing 1 mL of resin is supplied.
Answer:Capto Q is a strong anion exchanger, while Capto S is a strong cation exchanger; their ligand charge and sample selectivity differ.
HiTrap Capto Q is a prepacked strong anion-exchange chromatography column for screening protein binding and elution conditions at laboratory scale. Its 1 mL bed contains Capto Q resin with quaternary ammonium functional groups that retain suitably negatively charged biomolecules. The format is useful for capture, intermediate purification and selective removal of process-related impurities when the sample and buffer chemistry support anion-exchange binding. Control pH and conductivity before loading, and develop an appropriate salt gradient or step-elution procedure. Monitor the flow-through and eluate to distinguish target retention from impurity removal. Because Capto Q is an anion exchanger, it cannot be substituted directly for a Capto S cation-exchange column.
