di-Sodium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate is used for preparing phosphate-containing pharmaceutical and laboratory formulations where a compendial inorganic salt is required. This version is the 25 kg EMPROVE® ESSENTIAL grade of disodium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate, with the chemical formula Na₂HPO₄·2H₂O and a molecular weight of 177.99 g/mol. It meets Ph. Eur., BP, and USP requirements and is supplied as a solid. The ingredient can be selected for liquid, semi-solid, and solid pharmaceutical formulations, including ophthalmic applications, when the process calls for this exact hydrate and grade. Its 50 g/L aqueous solution has a pH of approximately 9.0–9.4 at 20 °C, and the material has an aqueous solubility of approximately 93 g/L. These characteristics are relevant to phosphate-buffer preparation and formulation design, where the hydrate form, concentration, and pH of the finished solution affect the resulting formulation. The 25 kg package supports bulk ingredient use in scale-up or manufacturing rather than small-volume reagent preparation. Store the product at 15–25 °C.
