LiChrospher® 100 CN is a cyano-bonded HPLC stationary phase with both polar and hydrophobic selectivity. This 125 × 4 mm LiChroCART™ cartridge contains 5 µm fully porous silica with 100 Å pores and approximately 6.6% carbon loading. The CN phase can operate in normal-phase, HILIC and reversed-phase modes, providing an intermediate selectivity between bare silica and more hydrophobic alkyl phases. The cartridge supports an operating pH range of about 2–7.5 and requires a compatible manuCART™ holder for connection to the HPLC system. It is useful when cyano selectivity offers improved resolution for moderately polar analytes or when a less hydrophobic alternative to C8 is preferred. Because cyano phases can change retention mode with mobile-phase composition, the column is useful during method development when selectivity must be adjusted without moving directly to a strongly hydrophobic stationary phase. Equilibration should be sufficient whenever the organic/aqueous balance is changed substantially.
