Merck Certipur Sodium Standard Solution provides a traceable 1,000 mg/L sodium reference in 0.5 M nitric acid for elemental calibration. Sodium is commonly determined in water, food-related samples, process streams and other matrices using appropriate atomic absorption or emission techniques. Because sodium contamination is widespread in laboratory environments, the preparation of reliable low-concentration standards requires particular attention to clean containers, reagents and handling. Make dilutions using verified volumetric devices and method-compatible acid or water, and include a reagent blank to quantify background. Check instrumental calibration with an independently prepared reference and account for any matrix effects associated with the samples under investigation. The stated concentration refers to sodium as an element, not sodium nitrate, sodium chloride or equivalent salinity. The stock is substantially more concentrated than many routine samples and is intended for controlled dilution. This 500 mL product is a certified single-element reference solution, not physiological saline or a conductivity standard.
