General description
The hydroxyl groups on the surface of the β-cyclodextrin are reacted with (R,S)-propylene oxide to yield a general purpose chiral stationary phase. It has the added property of separating non-aromatic structures such as t-boc amino acids, for which it is a standard methodology.

Application

Supelco Astec CYCLOBOND I 2000 RSP is a chiral HPLC analytical column based on a beta-cyclodextrin stationary phase bonded to silica. It contains 5 µm particles with 100 Å pores in a 250 × 4.6 mm stainless steel column. The chiral selector creates stereoselective interactions that enable separation of suitable enantiomers during development and analysis of chiral pharmaceutical and chemical compounds. Its selectivity differs from conventional achiral C18 or C8 reversed-phase columns, so solvent systems and mobile-phase conditions must be optimized for the target stereoisomers. The column has a specified pressure limit of 172 bar and a 0–50 °C operating temperature range. Appropriate chiral-method screening is important because enantiomer resolution depends on the analyte and conditions.
