ApplicationEnzymatic studies
Human A549 cell line has been used:
to study the ability of 2-(2,4-dihydroxyphenyl)thieno-1,3-thiazin-4-one (BChTT) to inhibit cancer cell proliferation and identify mechanisms involved in its actions
to study the effects of insulin and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF1) on proliferation and apoptosis in A549 cells
to culture A549 cells in different media over a long term and identify conditions for promoting alveolar type II differentiation characteristics in A549 cells
Biochem/physiol ActionsDerived from a 58 year old Caucasian male. The cells can synthesise lecithin utilising the cytidine diphosphocholine pathway. Occasional cells may also contain inclusion bodies although they are not known to carry any human pathogen.
Human Caucasian lung carcinoma
