NP-40 Surfact-Amps™ Detergent Solution, 50 mL is designed for protein solubilization, preparation of cell-lysis buffers and other protein-research workflows requiring a controlled nonionic detergent concentration. This product provides 50 mL of purified NP-40 as a 10% weight/volume solution in ultrapure water, supplied in an HDPE bottle. The ready-to-use solution eliminates handling of highly viscous neat detergent and makes accurate pipetting and dilution easier. NP-40 is a nonionic polyoxyethylene surfactant used to extract and solubilize proteins in cell-lysis and protein-analysis procedures. The solution is prepared and packaged under nitrogen to limit oxidative degradation and accumulation of unwanted peroxide products. Quality criteria include an NP-40 concentration of 10.0 ± 1.0%, oxidants not exceeding 1.0 µeq/mL and carbonyls not exceeding 1.0 µeq/mL. Its physical characteristics include a critical micelle concentration of approximately 0.29 mM and a cloud point of 80 °C. The 50 mL HDPE format is suited to laboratories preparing their own working buffers from its defined 10% stock concentration. It is a detergent solution for research use, not an enzyme, cell-culture medium or sterile filtration device. The surfactant's defined concentration also makes detergent exposure more reproducible between batches of extraction buffer. Its packaged aqueous form is particularly convenient for preparing low-percentage working solutions in daily laboratory use.
