Dubos Polysorbate 80 Albumin Broth is a liquid medium recommended for cultivation of Mycobacterium species. Polysorbate 80 is an oleic acid ester and an in vitro indicator of mycobacterial virulence. Virulent cultures form cords in media containing oleic acid or its esters, while nonvirulent cultures grow more diffusely.
• Ready-to-use:Convenience of prepared media.Dubos Polysorbate Albumin Broth contains casein peptone and asparagine that supply nitrogen for the growth of mycobacteria. Disodium and monopotassium phosphates provide the buffering system. The inorganic salts supply ions essential for metabolism. Polysorbate 80 (10%) serves as a nutritional source of essential fatty acids and also acts as a dispersing agent for homogenous growth from a small inoculum. Bovine plasma albumin (serum factor V) enhance the growth of mycobacteria and provides protection against bacteriostatic and bactericidal effect by toxic agents.
