It helps retain particulate or strongly interacting contaminants before they reach the analytical separation bed, supporting protection of the main column in protein and other biomolecule SEC workflows. The guard must be used in the correct flow orientation and coupled with low-dead-volume connections to limit unnecessary band broadening. This is a protective guard component, not a substitute for the full-length analytical SEC column.
