Answer:SB stands for Selectivity for Bases; the non-endcapped phase preserves silanol interactions that can alter basic-analyte selectivity.
Answer:No. It has a low-coverage, non-endcapped C18 surface on high-strength silica.
Answer:The 150 × 3.0 mm column uses 3.5 µm, 100 Å particles and is specified for pH 2–8, up to 45 °C and 6,000 psi.
Waters XSelect HSS C18 SB (Selectivity for Bases) is a reversed-phase HPLC column with low-coverage, non-endcapped C18 ligands on high-strength silica. Its 150 × 3.0 mm packed bed contains 3.5 µm particles with 100 Å pores. The exposed silanol activity deliberately introduces additional interactions with basic analytes, creating selectivity different from fully endcapped C18 phases. This chemistry supports selectivity screening when conventional low-silanol C18 columns do not resolve a compound mixture adequately. The published limits are pH 2–8, 45 °C and 6,000 psi. One analytical column is included.
