Application Note

Waters Universal Sentry Guard Cartridge Holder Kit is reusable hardware for installing compatible 20 mm Sentry guard cartridges upstream of an HPLC analytical column. The holder is suitable for selected 3.0, 3.9, 4.0 and 4.6 mm internal-diameter Sentry cartridges, allowing a compact replaceable guard bed to be integrated into the fluidic path. Its kit includes a U-shaped connector with compression screws and ferrules for connecting the guard assembly to the analytical column. The holder itself contains no chromatographic packing and does not determine stationary-phase selectivity. Guard cartridges must be selected separately to match the column chemistry and method. Properly seated fittings minimize leaks and avoid unnecessary extra-column volume, which is important for retaining peak shape. During servicing, inspect the ferrules and connector, then verify pressure stability after installing a fresh cartridge. This is a holder kit, not a pack of filled guard columns.
