Waters XBridge BEH Shield RP18 is a reversed-phase HPLC column that combines BEH hybrid particles with an embedded carbamate group in its C18 ligand. This embedded polar functionality changes chromatographic selectivity relative to conventional straight-chain C18 and C8 columns, particularly for compounds containing phenolic functional groups. The chemistry is therefore useful in method development when a conventional reversed-phase phase gives inadequate peak spacing. The column is 4.6 mm internal diameter by 250 mm length, with 5 µm spherical BEH particles and 130 Å pores. It is endcapped and has a 17% carbon load. The pH operating range is 2–11, with a maximum pressure of 6,000 psi (415 bar). This broad pH window supports method optimization across acidic and moderately alkaline mobile-phase conditions within the approved limits. The column has USP classification L1 and is supplied as one analytical HPLC column.
