The Waters XBridge BEH C8 analytical HPLC column uses octyl-bonded bridged ethyl hybrid particles for reversed-phase separation of compounds with differing hydrophobicities. This configuration combines 130 Å pores and 5 µm particles in a 4.6 mm inner-diameter by 150 mm column. C8 chemistry generally provides less hydrophobic retention than a comparable C18 phase, making it useful when highly retained analytes require faster elution or adjusted selectivity. The hybrid particle technology supports mobile-phase operation across a broad pH range of approximately 1–12 when the complete method and system are compatible. Applications include pharmaceutical method development, small-molecule profiling and resolution of related substances. Optimize organic modifier content, gradient profile and temperature to control selectivity and peak shape. Sample filtration and a compatible guard column can help protect the analytical bed from particulates and strongly retained contaminants.
