Overview of Cellbag™ bioreactor containers for cell culture The Cellbag™ bioreactor container is mounted onto the electric rocking base unit of a WAVE™ Bioreactor system and inflated. Cell culture media and cells are loaded into the single-use chamber. The rocking motion of the base unit induces waves in the cell culture fluid to provide efficient mixing and gas transfer, which enables cell growth. Variety of Cellbag™ bioreactor container options and configurations The Cellbag™ bioreactor container portfolio offers volumes ranging from 0.5 to 200 L with many combinations of the following components: Air inlet filter Air outlet filter Needleless sampling port Inoculation/harvest lines Optical dissolved oxygen (DO) sensor Optical pH sensor Perfusion filter Screw cap ReadyMate aseptic connectors Cellbag™ bioreactor containers can also be customized to suit your specific cell culture process needs. Cellbag™ bioreactor container materials of construction Cellbag™ bioreactor containers with Bioclear™ 10 have fluid contact layers that are a USP Class VI ethylene vinyl acetate/low density polyethylene copolymer. This composition provides biological compatibility for animal cell cultivation. Outer noncontact layers are made of low-density polyethylene, providing strength and low gas permeability. Porous polyethylene-based perfusion filter Perfusion Cellbag™ bioreactor containers are fitted with a porous polyethylene-based perfusion filter that floats on the medium and is used to retain cells in the bag during perfusion cultivation or medium exchange. Perfusion bags come with two filter options. Single-use bioreactor bags available in new film Cellbag™ bioreactor containers with Fortem film are now available for animal cell cultivation in ReadyToProcess WAVE™ rocking motion bioreactors. Fortem™ single-use film was built from scratch for bioprocessing. Fortem™ film delivers an enhanced material science profile, application performance, and supply chain security.

Application Note

Cytiva Cellbag 10 L Basic is a presterilized, single-use rocking bioreactor container built with BioClear 10 film. The disposable cultivation chamber runs on a compatible WAVE or ReadyToProcess WAVE rocking bioreactor platform. Wave-driven mixing and aeration enable gentle agitation during cultivation of mammalian and other suitable cell lines. The Basic layout is a straightforward rocking-bag configuration without the optional perfusion, screw-cap, or integrated optical pH and dissolved-oxygen sensing features of other versions. It can support cell expansion, early seed-train stages and small-scale upstream experiments, and recombinant protein research where a closed, single-use flow path limits cleaning requirements between batches. Gas transfer, temperature control, sampling, and culture monitoring depend on the host rocking system and the chosen operating procedure. Each catalog unit is one bag rather than a multi-pack or complete bioreactor instrument.
