Answer:Preparation of lipid-based transfection complexes and reduced-serum mammalian cell culture.
Gibco™ Opti-MEM™ I Reduced Serum Medium is a modified MEM formulation developed for mammalian-cell culture and lipid-mediated transfection workflows. This configuration contains one 100 mL sterile-filtered bottle, with L-glutamine and phenol red. Its formulation includes insulin, transferrin, hypoxanthine, thymidine, and trace elements that can support a reduction in serum supplementation in suitable cell lines. The medium is commonly used while forming lipid–nucleic acid transfection complexes and as an experimental culture medium for compatible adherent or suspension mammalian cells. It contains sodium bicarbonate buffering and is intended for use under an appropriate carbon-dioxide atmosphere. The product contains no fetal bovine serum, is stored at 2–8 °C protected from light, and is supplied for research or further manufacturing.
