Thermo Scientific Chemicals phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) is a ready-to-use 1X isotonic buffer for reconstituting sterile cytokines and antibodies and for other compatible biochemical handling steps. The 500 mL aqueous solution has a nominal pH of 7.4 ± 0.2 and contains sodium chloride, potassium chloride and sodium and potassium phosphate salts. Its specification includes 0.137 M sodium chloride, 2.7 mM potassium chloride, 10.1 mM dibasic sodium phosphate and 1.76 mM monobasic potassium phosphate. The liquid is passed through a 0.22 µm filter and can be stored at ambient temperature. This sterile-filtered buffer is supplied as a working-strength solution rather than a concentrated stock requiring dilution.
