The Waters XTerra Shield RP18 HPLC column uses a polar-embedded reversed-phase C18 chemistry on hybrid particles to separate small molecules, including basic analytes that may otherwise exhibit tailing from residual silanol interactions. The 4.6 mm × 150 mm analytical column contains 5 µm particles with 125 Å pores. Its embedded polar functionality can improve peak shape for suitably retained basic compounds, while the hybrid particle substrate supports a wider usable mobile-phase pH range than conventional silica-based columns. The operating pH range is 2–12, with a maximum pressure of 6000 psi (415 bar). Optimize solvent composition, buffer concentration, pH and temperature for the specific sample rather than assuming one method is universally transferable. Filter and degas mobile phases as required, equilibrate sufficiently before injections and monitor pressure and retention for signs of column fouling. This is a standard analytical column, not a preparative or guard cartridge.
