The Waters XBridge BEH Shield RP18 analytical column uses 3.5 µm bridged ethyl hybrid (BEH) particles with 130 Å pores in a 4.6 × 250 mm format for reversed-phase HPLC. An embedded carbamate group in the C18 ligand changes the stationary phase's interaction with polar and phenolic compounds, providing selectivity that differs from conventional C18 and C8 phases. The hybrid particle architecture supports method development across a broad mobile-phase pH range of 2–11, subject to the compatibility of the complete chromatographic system. This long column format offers substantial separation length for resolving closely eluting analytes, with a corresponding pressure and analysis-time trade-off. Equilibrate the bonded phase with the initial mobile-phase composition, use well-filtered samples and avoid precipitation when switching buffer and organic solvent conditions.
