The Waters ACQUITY BEH Amide VanGuard pre-column is a short hydrophilic interaction chromatography guard component used ahead of compatible BEH Amide analytical columns. The guard contains a trifunctionally bonded amide stationary phase on 1.7 µm bridged ethyl hybrid particles with 130 Å pores. Each cartridge has a 2.1 mm internal diameter and 5 mm length, and three pre-columns are supplied. The direct-connect format minimizes additional connection volume when installed at the matching analytical column inlet. Its bonded amide chemistry is different from an unbonded BEH HILIC analytical column, so matching column selectivity matters. The official specifications list an operating pH range of 2–11 and a maximum pressure of 18,000 psi (1240 bar). Replace the guard when contamination or rising backpressure affects method performance.
