The 3.9 × 5 mm cartridge is filled with 5 µm silica particles with 100 Å pores and endcapped octyl ligands. It is optimized for protecting 4.6 mm internal-diameter SunFire C8 analytical columns containing 5 µm packing. The matching C8 surface helps preserve the analytical column's selectivity while capturing material that would otherwise foul the inlet. The specified mobile-phase pH range is 2–8, and the cartridge's maximum pressure is 18,000 psi (1,240 bar); other system components may impose a lower allowable pressure. Install the correct holder and avoid substituting a C18 guard solely because the external dimensions appear similar. Filter samples and mobile phases as required by the method, monitor pressure trends, and change the guard when contaminants begin to compromise chromatographic performance.
