Waters Symmetry C8 Sentry guard cartridges protect compatible reversed-phase analytical columns by retaining material that would otherwise accumulate at the head of the main column. The silica-based, endcapped C8 phase has a nominal pore size of 100 Å, a particle size of 5 µm and an individual cartridge dimension of 3.9 × 20 mm. The package contains two cartridges. A matching C8 guard phase can help preserve the selectivity of a Symmetry C8 separation while capturing strongly retained sample contaminants and particulate matter. The specified pH range is 2–8 and the maximum operating pressure is 6,000 psi (415 bar), subject to the limits of the complete assembled flow path. Install the guard cartridge using the appropriate Sentry holder and correct flow orientation. Equilibrate with the analytical method's mobile phase, and replace a fouled cartridge when excessive backpressure or altered chromatography indicates guard-bed contamination.
