µBondapak C18 Guard-Pak inserts protect reversed-phase HPLC analytical columns from strongly retained contaminants and particulate material while preserving the separation chemistry of µBondapak C18 stationary phases. Each replaceable guard insert contains 10 µm irregular silica particles bonded with C18 groups and has a nominal pore size of 125 Å. The sorbent is endcapped, with approximately 10% carbon loading and high silanol activity. A pack contains 10 inserts for use in a compatible Guard-Pak holder. Position the guard assembly upstream of the analytical column, choose a mobile phase suitable for reversed-phase operation, and follow the recommended pH range of 2–8. The specified maximum pressure is 6,000 psi (415 bar), although the lower rating of the installed system or column governs actual operation. Replacing a contaminated insert can restore flow characteristics and reduce unwanted sample carryover without replacing the main column. Match the guard sorbent chemistry to the analytical column before installation.
